KILLEEN, TX — The Killeen Fire Department responded to a structure fire on Tuesday.
The fire was at the 4400 block of Canine Drive in Killeen. Smoke plumes could be seen for miles during the early afternoon on Tuesday.
"It started from within and it came out, and when I pulled up all I saw was fire. And that’s when I was like, 'oh my god,' and then I thought about the dogs," said Delorise McKey, a neighbor.
The homeowner said no one was home at the time of the fire, except for their three dogs. Only two were rescued.
Canine Drive was shut down in the afternoon while crews continued to knock down the fire.
Investigators from the Office of the Fire Marshal say that the fire started in the garage. There was significant damage to the home and a boat.
The cause remains under investigation.
